Guitar Teacher David McHenry hopes his love of music is contagious.
David’s love of music began early. Coming from a very musical family, his mother is a pianist and his father plays the saxophone, David heard a variety of styles ranging from classical to jazz to classic rock throughout his childhood. His high school choir teacher was a huge inspiration, instilling in David her passion for music, and introducing him to even more genres of music. David started teaching himself to play any instrument he could get his hands on including guitar, viola, piano, and steel pan drums. A typical day of listening to music for David today might include a Brahms symphony, a Sonny Rollins jazz recording, some rock music, and a Nick Drake recording too!
We feel it’s important that all of our instructors are working musicians so that they have a true understanding of the art and business of music. David’s band Herzog performs concerts regionally and one of their songs has been picked as this year’s NPR “All Songs Considered”. Herzog’s 2nd album “Cartoon Violence” is available through Itunes. With a nod to the past, Herzog’s album was also released on vinyl, and when you purchase the LP, you get a code to download the songs digitally as well. David is a co-writer and arranger for the band. He also is recording with the local group Expecting Rain as well as performing with various local groups.
David has studied guitar at BW and has taught guitar and electric bass at WHM since we opened. Passing on the love of music is his primary goal. He instructs at all levels in rock, jazz, classical, and pop music.
